Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have encountered a variety of entertaining independent titles. However, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure includes a character that is truly a piece of poop trying to make its way to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: press a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, battle boss fights and access a shop to acquire skins for your poop character.

Time your jumps with caution, since one error means beginning again. Jump on bubbles to launch yourself to new heights, traverse crumbling ledges, and interact with buttons to reveal hidden paths. Earn currency for buying challenging stages where gameplay gets crazy.

In terms of design, the game shows off neon environments and catchy soundtrack. The simple visual style with shifting basic polygons evokes memories of gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although tough to recall previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as fertilizer. Naturally, such content shows up a lot in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is accessible currently on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on computers on November 19.
